Welcome

Happy fall! This month has two main events that promise to be funThe FAIR and HALLOWEEN!
It’s an exciting time of year and colorful one too!

Look at what we’re doing all day

Language Arts/Phonics:

  • Phonics: In Fundations, we are learning the 26 letters of the alphabet and their sounds.  In the next few weeks, we will be learning a strategy of tapping out words.  This strategy will be applied in our guided reading lessons as well.

  • Word Wall: Please continue to practice the packet of trick/sight words sent home on Parent Seminar Night.

  • Reading: The children will continue to learn about different reading strategies that they can use when reading. Ask your child to show you how to tap out a word.  For example:  /c/a/t/.  This strategy will help your child to separate each sound in a word.

  • Writing: The children are continuing to learn what makes a correct and complete sentence (starts with a capital letter, spaces between words, and ends with a punctuation mark).  They have been doing a fantastic job applying these skills. Just recently we made a “Sentence Buddy”.  It will stay in the Draw and Write notebook and be a guide and reminder as your child writes.

Math:
We are currently in Chapter 3 of the Math and Focus Program.  This chapter focuses on Addition to 10.

Social Studies:
The children will learn about our American Symbols.  For example: The White House.  We will work together to fill in a Venn diagram comparing our houses to The White House. This month, we will also discuss our next character trait politeness/respect and reliability. We will also learn about Christopher Columbus and why we celebrate Columbus Day.

November Volunteer Reminders:
Just in case you forgot to send in the volunteer slip, please send it as soon as you can.   I wanted to include a few reminders that are important to be aware of before starting in the classroom:

  • You need to fill out a CORI form from the office

  • If you can’t make it in on one of your scheduled days, don’t worry. If you are able to find a replacement that would be very helpful, but if not, our class will be fine.
  • Just a reminder to refrain from bringing siblings in with you during your scheduled time, as they can be a distraction for the children during this important learning time.

Halloween: On Friday, October 31st, we will dress up in our Halloween costumes and walk in a parade around the school. Our room mothers are working hard to plan our Halloween celebration for the same day, and you will be receiving more information about it soon.
