Matt Tavares visits Steward School

Today author/illustrator Matt Tavares visited Steward.  With over 15 books published, Matt took the kids through the writing process of writing and illustrating children's books.  Thank you TESPTO for making Matt's appearance at Steward possible.  My students loved the presentation.

Meet the Interns

Miss S is getting her Master's in Reading
Meet our interns, Miss S and Miss A! These two lovely ladies help in the day to day prep work and assist in many activities such as math and story problem solving.  I am so lucky to have the extra support in the classroom.  The students are fortunate to have three teachers eager to help them. The interns have been working with students on addition and subtraction equations, one of our Common Core Standards.

Operations & Algebraic Thinking

Work with addition and subtraction equations.

7. Understand the meaning of the equal sign, and determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true or false. For example, which of the following equations are true and which are false? 6 = 6, 7 = 8 – 1, 5 + 2 = 2 + 5, 4 + 1 = 5 + 2.

Miss A is studying Early Childhood Education

Halloween Parade and Party

October was Spooktacular!  The Halloween party was a huge success!  One of our favorite books that we read several times was There Was An Old Lady Who Not Afraid of Anything.  This term we are learning to retell stories and identify the main characters of fictional stories. Essential Questions to ask your child after listening to the story:

  • Who was the main character?
  • Where does the setting take place?
  • What were some of the items the Old Lady ran into?
Check out the easel in the picture below.  We are consistently sharing the pen and retelling stories.
