PROJECTS
Flat Stanley Travel Project The character Flat Stanley is a creation of Jeff Brown and Tomi Ungerer who wrote and illustrated the book titled, Flat Stanley. In the story, Stanley woke up one day to find himself flattened by a bulletin board that had been hanging over his bed. He was now only an inch thick. Soon after this event he received an invitation to visit a friend in California. His parents could not afford to send him by airplane, so they slid him into an envelope and mailed him with an egg salad sandwich. This story sparked an idea. To help us learn more about our world, why not send Flat Stanley out to family, friends, and other travelers? A person who receives Flat Stanley needs only to send us a short note and/or a picture to let us know where Stanley is visiting. After Stanley completes a visit, we trust he will have the opportunity to travel to another destination. We are hoping Stanley has a chance to visit many places around the world. As we hear from Stanley's caretakers we will chart his travels. We thank all the people who will take the time to send us pictures, postcards, and/or mail. We appreciate the opportunity to learn more about our world in a fun and exciting way. We will be checking our mailbox each day with great anticipation. Please know that any communication from you will bring joy and greater knowledge to our classroom. Please send Stanley off as soon as possible to his next destination. We would like Flat Stanley to do the majority of his travels in the next few months. We kindly ask that the people with Stanley on or around April 1st send him back to us at school. We will plan a welcome home for him before the end of the school year. As each person meets Stanley and helps to support his journey, we will know where each child's Stanley has traveled and be able plot his visits on our map.
Will we know when our child's Flat Stanley begins sharing his travels with the class? Will there be updates of any sort? Hope they all have safe travels and return home with stories of great adventure!
